Subject: Hour One | |||||
Michael shifted into a Werewolf and Zosimos climbed onto his back, wrapping his arms around his neck and then Michael ran off, sure to make the ride as unpleasant as possible for his older brother. Zosimos clung to Michael and cast the occasional glance behind then to see the Jager quickly catching up to them. “Hurry, Mike! It’s catching up!” Michael just grunted and continued running, heading for the cave which was beginning to come into sight. He could see the small entrance in the rock face looming ahead of them. Michael realized that the entrance was much too small for a werewolf to fit through, but he kept running at it in full speed. Zosimos looked back again and shouted “We’re Not gonna make it!!” “Oh YES we are!” Michael snarled as the hurled toward the cave entrance. As it drew near Zosimos jumped off his back and bolted at the Cave entrance and Michael continued running, shifting back into his human form at the same time. Michael could feel the hot stinking breath of the demon wolf on the back of his neck and be put forth a last effort and then dived into the cave entrance right behind Zosimos and they both scrambled deeper into the cave as its huge body slammed into the rack face and snapped at the entrance. Its eye alone took up the space of the cave entrance. It clawed at the opening and snarled. The brothers lay there panting, watching the wolf. “That... was too close.” Michael said through gulps of air. “I thought it was going to get us for sure.” Zos agreed. “I think we should head farther in. I don’t want to sit here and watch that ting try and dig its way to us.” “Good idea.” It was a few minutes before either of them moved, but they got to their feet and walked further into the cave, or in Michael’s Case, dragged himself deeper into the cave. His arms and legs felt like jelly after sprinting for a mile with Zosimos on his back. All he wanted now was a drink and some sleep. “So you’re saying... that we have another 24 hours of this?” “You heard correctly.” Michael hung his head and groaned. “Can we stay down here?” “No.” “Why no-ot?” “Because we have to keep moving, or it WILL get to us no matter where we are. Al this Cave provides us is just enough time for me to explain to you what is going on. But that comes later, when we have found some light.” Michael sighed and then just trudged on after his brother in the vast darkness. |
