I think we're not on the same page, so I'll boil it down. What I'm saying is that the most successful game companies get that way by charging reasonable prices that allow many people to compete on an even level (as opposed to everyone competing on a different level based on how much they pay). What I think you're saying (but I'm not sure of this), is that game companies needed to become big to be able to charge flat monthly rates or one-time fees. I meant "top-of-the-line PC game or console game", not "top-of-the-line PC or top-of-the-line console game". And yes, it is all about elements and AP. The niche of this game is the CBR. To be a power venner, you can't go without ultra and elements. And you can't get to be one the best without a lot of AP and sapphires. If you don't, you will always be leagues behind those who do. And if many people can beat you, you are considered inferior to them. Maybe hundreds of dollars a month was an exaggeration, but it's definitely a "pay more than them if you want to beat them" kind of situation. |
