Part of it could be apathy, but there are also some people out there, especially those new to online gaming, in general, who take a while getting situated with a game. It does take up to a week for them and probably longer. And by the time they realize they're using the wrong style, as you say, it's still too late. As one who loves to play Devil's Advocate....I must admit that, if anything, losing beginner's protection after a week gave me a quick crash course in some things I was doing wrong and strategies that needed tweaking. However, I was able to figure those things out as an experienced player (of sorts). Others get frustrated and just give up. It's a fine balance that's needed to keep interest without people running off at the first signs of adversity. When that adversity can be delayed a bit, it at least allows people to get a little more involved in the game first, providing a better chance that they'll stick through the adversity. |
