for weapons and armor is this.

you go to the blacksmith to create a sword with a strength bonus. the number of leaves determine the bonus.

next you go back to blacksmith to create a sword with a agility bonus.

this way you can customize your approach to any battle.

but using potions as a way to increas ones stats is also a good idea
