| The royal family is seated underneath a canopy; Arianna is in the dead center. Impatience always gets the best of her. “Father, can something be done? I detest the wait…” He simply laughs and shakes his head. She lets out a heavy sigh and gazes up at the overcast sky. “Looks like rain…” Her mother glances up at the ominous clouds. “Oh I hope it does not rain until the match is over!” The match was to be between the “Pu” and Tokken. Arianna remembers the first joust in which the “Pu” was unhorsed in the first lance. The memory made her wince. “What is the matter?” her mother asked. “Oh… nothing.” The signal horn echoes across the field and draws Arianna’s attention to the two men who were now advancing toward one another. She recognizes the first man to be Tokken. However, his opponent looks nothing like the man who rode a donkey for his first joust. He was wearing an ivory shield, full armor and a Kopjafa. More importantly, he is now riding a horse. He appears to be much more focused than he was in his match with Scabernac. Arianna is so caught off guard by these changes that she almost misses the match. The moment of impact grabs her attention. The “Pu” struck Tokken in the head just as Tokken broke his lance on the “Pu’s chest. Although the “Pu” had put a lot of force into his strike, Tokken held firmly to his horse as did the “Pu.” The announcer yells above the roaring crowd, “Two points are awarded to the “Pu” for a broken lance to the helm. One point is awarded to Tokken for a broken lance to the torso.” |
