Subject: saying something is a function of time
is a matter of when, not why. time itself is an aspect of existence and part of the something that we are asking about. A why question about existence cannot be answered by something readily available to us in existence at this time. At a latter time we may hit the point of WHEN we understand WHY any of it is there at all.

Why answers are things like a creator (God or otherwise) designed the universe this way to their whims (or in the case of God, omniscience), or it is the best possible outcome that there be something, or that chance determines all aspects of something vs nothing, or that it just is as it is because that is how it is. None of these responses are 'proven' as correct over the others, but each is an answer to the actual question of why. Answering this question must go beyond simply explaining the series of causation that has lead to the unfolding of the universe as we know it, but also why is there that series of causation in the first place? why is there anything?
