It is estimated that worldwide there is an arsenal of 639,000,000 firearms , half of which in the hands of civilians and the rest available to the police and security, which is one gun for every ten people. Since its invention in 1947, 70,000,000 units of AK-47 have been produced, the light weapon par excellence, used in 78 countries and produced in 14. Although not known exactly the value of production and trade of small arms and light weapons, we have detected a significant increase in the amount from the end of the Cold War, and some analysts estimate that export can have a value of more than 6,000 billion a year, ie one eighth of the total value of arms trade. The U.S. is the largest producer of ammunition, although Russia and the countries of Eastern Europe are showing very active in recent years. European industry produces two to three times its own demand, with an annual rate of between 1,000 and 2,000 million cartridges (amo).
