Background:
The bastard son of a knight, Karak was taken apprentice to the local blacksmith. There he learned the ways of working metal. His master was a master weaponsmith with a specialty in swords. With no son of his own, he passed on his skills to Karak, although he never married his mother, they shared the same roof and Karak came to think of him as father.

War swept through the land as oft happened and an army on the march came across Karak's artisanship and swept him into their mobile armory as they headed to the battle lines.

One of the knights thought he looked familiar and asked after his father which Karak refused to answer. The knight befriended him and taught him to use the weapons he crafted and through this friendship won his trust. Karak revealed his true father and word spread for his father was held in high regard.

A messenger came to the armory one day summoning Karak and he was acknowledged by his father and proposed for knighthood, which was seconded by his new friend. Karak refused, saying he must prove himself in battle first before he could take on such a responsibility and joined the infantry.

Many battles he fought as a foot soldier and won much praise being elevated up the chain of command. He then returned to his father and knelt before him accepting his boon of knighthood.

Many years he spent in war supporting his Lord and learning the art of war in many different lands, his sword soaked in the blood of his enemies. Many maidens had tried to tempt his heart, but he refused, on the grounds that he would not give them a grave and an empty hearth to worship.

Into his thirties Karak was granted a small landholding to which he retired and in the nearby village met a young woman, Meru, who saw through the scars and battle weariness to the man beneath. They have 5 children, 2 sons and 3 daughters.

Their small estate provides employment for many of the villagers and they are respected and loved by the community.
