On the one hand, there is the appearance factor for new players. I agree with this and wont get into it as Elodin has outlined it nicely. On the other hand there is another problem. Speaking as someone that has been inactive in the game, there is no way I could come back and be an effective helper or anything tomorrow. Too much of the game has changed in that time (although my absence has been longer then a year). The same would hold true for others that have spent time away from the game. At the very least there would be new aspects to learn and other aspects to relearn. The learning curve for someone coming back would almost be like first hitting the game again. That being said, if players do come back and continue to show interest in volunteering for the community as a helper/staff/admin then the removal of their shield could be reconsidered upon their being able to demonstrate they have caught up with the changes. |
