| Trunky was a young elephant. He was born to a tribe of elephants who were feared by all. His tribe ruled the plains and struck fear into all other elephant tribes. They would knock over trees for no reason and fart in the water holes while other elephants drank. The leader of the tribe was named Mbgatu. He was a massive elephant with the longest, sharpest tusks ever. He was well liked and well respected. His son was not so fortunate. His tusks were little nubs, but his trunk was so big he used to trip over it. It would drag on the ground and was always in the way. To make fun of him the other elephants called him “Trunky”. He used to cry himself to sleep every night. When the other young elephants would go play around he would wander off and find ways to keep himself occupied. One day the young elephants went on a march through the jungle. The most outspoken of the group, Steve, was joking around and not paying attention. He wandered into some quick sand and began to sink. His friends reached out with their trunks to try and save him but none could reach. Steve was running out of time. He called out, “Go get Trunky!” So they ran off to find him. When they found Trunky he was not so eager to help. They told him how sorry they were and promised to be his friend if he could save Steve. He finally agreed and they rushed off to save him. When they got back to the quicksand, Steve had slipped under and died. The moral here is, don’t make fun of people who look funny because when you need their help, it make take too long and you could die. |
